Yellow Jersey Final Week

July 19th – July 25th, 2022 • cycling

This trip is our most popular option for cyclists as the riding is great and you have the best VIP access to the Tour de France plus the finish in Paris. We will pick up at the Toulouse airport, then head into the Pyrenees mountains. You will ride in the Pyrenees and have VIP access to the Tour at a stage start, along the course and at a stage finish.

One of the highlights of this trip is the climb up the Col du Tourmalet. In addition to being one of the most iconic climbs in the world of cycling, the scenery is beautiful and you will have a great story to tell your friends and family. Another highlight is the finish of the Tour in Paris. You will be in the middle of the excitement on the Champs-Élysées as you watch the racers pass 16 times in front of you on their way to the finish of the race.

You will enjoy very nice 4-star accommodations and a very high level of support during your rides. As always, we allow non-cycling partners on our trips and they will enjoy the same VIP access to the race. We can’t wait for you to join us!

Day 01

Arrival at Toulouse Airport

Date Tuesday, July 19 Hotel Location Toulouse

Welcome to France! We will be picking up at the Toulouse airport (TLS) in the afternoon. We check into our hotel, get fitted for your bike and take a short ride to shake off the dust from traveling. We will enjoy our welcome dinner and get acquainted.

Each guest will receive gifts from Custom Getaways, including a cycling jersey, and a gift from the Tour de France. You will also receive a discount card for 30% off official le Tour merchandise.

Day 02

Ride into the Pyrenees and view race in VIP venue along the course

Date Wednesday, July 20 Hotel Location Lourdes

Following a hearty breakfast and checking out of our hotel, we’ll transfer closer to our first ride in the Pyrenees. Part of our ride today will be on the stage course as we head to our VIP venue, Relais Etape. This ride will be between 40 and 60 kilometers and less than 600 meters of elevation gain. We always offer different riding distances for our guests, so you will feel comfortable with the speed and distance of the rides.

Your guides provide a high level of support with drinks, water, energy bars, gels, etc. for the rides.  A sag van will follow the riders for support during most rides.

The venue will serve a 4-course meal with soft drinks, beer, wine and champagne. There are TV’s and commentators to describe the action (mostly in French) until the races pass in front of us. The atmosphere is electric in anticipation of the racers and their entourage. To add to the excitement, a caravan/parade passes ahead of the race and tosses gifts and gadgets to the crowd.

Once the race has finished, we’ll head to Lourdes, which will be home for the next three nights. You’ll have a chance to stroll through town and find a place for dinner.

Day 03

Ride across finish line, podium pictures and VIP finish

Date Thursday, July 21 Hotel Location Lourdes

Today will be exciting as we will ride on the course to the final, mountain top finish, where Stage 18 will end. Since we are in the mountains, the distance for today’s ride will be in the 35-60 kilometer range with around 1,600 meters of elevation gain.

We will ride on the race course up the world famous Hautacam and cross the finish line before the pros. Only five Tour stages have finished at the top of the long climb to the resort that overlooks Lourdes. After crossing the line, we will have pictures taken on the podium to commemorate our victory.

Following the podium, we enter the Izoard VIP venue, located near the finish line. This venue has finger food, drinks, beer, champagne, TVs and private restrooms…a great way to see the race.

We will relax tonight as we enjoy local cuisine together at our group dinner.

Day 04

VIP start and ride Col du Tourmalet

Date Friday, July 22 Hotel Location Lourdes

Today we start the day with VIP access to the start village. Located in the town of Castelnau-Magnoac, this is a great location to experience the beginning of a Tour de France stage. You’ll enjoy finger foods, drinks and will be able to view the racers line up as they are announced for the start of Stage 19.

After the racers depart, you can grab a light lunch before we transfer towards our last ride …the epic Col du Tourmalet! You can choose whether you want to make the climb or try one of the other routes in the valley back toward the hotel. Of course, the distance and elevation gain will depend on which ride you choose.

We’ll enjoy a group dinner tonight in the town of Lourdes.

Day 05

Train to Paris and private viewing of time trial on TV

Date Saturday, July 23 Hotel Location Paris

We’ll pack up and check-out of our hotel as we have Paris in our sights. We’ll train up to Paris to prepare for the finish of the Tour. With an afternoon arrival, we’ll head to a restaurant or bar to have a viewing party of the final Individual Time Trial. This stage will be the last chance for racers to make a move before tomorrow’s ride into Paris.

Appetizers and drinks will be served as we watch the racers perform this solo discipline after three weeks of racing.

We’ll Metro to our hotel, located just a few blocks from the Arc de Triomphe.

Day 06

Tour finish in VIP venue on Champs-Élysées

Date Sunday, July 24 Hotel Location Paris

Good morning Paris! You’ll have some free time this morning to explore before we meet to walk to the Eiffel Tower. We will be served an excellent lunch with magnificent views of Paris.

Following lunch, the group will walk to your VIP venue on the Champs-Élysées, where you will view the finish of the Tour de France in the Grand Palais grandstands. The grandstands offer beer and soft-drinks. You will also receive a gift from le Tour.

The racers will pass directly in front of you 8 time and 8 times on the other side of the famed, cobble-stoned road…an experience you won’t soon forget!
