Tour de France • VIP access

Spectator Alps & Alpe d'Huez

July 9th – July 15th, 2022 • non-cycling

This trip is for those who love the Tour de France and cycling, but don’t want the challenge of riding in the Alps. You will enjoy the most VIP access to the Tour de France that is available. We will pick up at the Geneva airport then head into Lausanne, a city located on Lake Geneva. We’ll say goodbye to Switzerland and will head into the heart of the Alps to our hotel in Chamonix, located at the base of Mont Blanc. You will have VIP access to the Tour at a stage start, along the course and at a stage finish.

On July 14th, Bastille day in France, you will enjoy a private viewing of the climb on Alpe d’Huez from a Chalet located right on the road between the two final turns. We will have great food, drinks, beer and wine to enjoy before the racers arrive. This is the most famous climb in cycling and the energy is electric.

You will enjoy very nice 4-star accommodations and other activities in addition to the Tour such as touring a glacier. We can’t wait for you to join us!

Day 01

Arrival in Geneva, Switzerland and Stage finish in VIP venue

Date Saturday, July 9 Hotel Location Lausanne

We will be picking up at the Geneva airport (GVA) in the early afternoon. After checking into our hotel, ideally located in the city of Lausanne, we’ll waste no time heading to the finish of today’s stage in our VIP venue.

We will enter the Izoard VIP venue, located near the finish line. This venue has finger-food, drinks, beer, champagne, TVs and private restrooms…a great way to see the race! Tonight we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner with our guide and the group.

Each guest will receive a gift from Custom Getaways and from the Tour de France. You will also receive a discount card for 30% off official le Tour merchandise.

Day 02

VIP race viewing along the course

Date Sunday, July 10 Hotel Location Chamonix

Following a hearty breakfast, our transfer will take us to our next VIP venue. The venue is located right on the Stage 9 route and is called Relais Etape. This venue will serve a 4-course meal with soft drinks, beer, wine and champagne. There are TVs and commentators to describe the action (mostly in French) until the race passes in front of us. The atmosphere is electric in anticipation of the racers and their entourage. To add to the excitement, a caravan/parade passes ahead of the race and tosses gifts and gadgets to the crowd.

The drive to our next hotel is beautiful. We will call Chamonix home for the next three nights. Tonight you are on your own for dinner. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to explore in this mountain town with views all around.

Bon Appetit!

Day 03

Tour glacier on Mont Blanc

Date Monday, July 11 Hotel Location Chamonix

Today is a rest day for the Tour but that doesn’t mean we have to rest. We’ll take a ride via the “Little Red Train” up the mountain to the largest glacier in France, Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice). Wear you hiking shoes as there are trails to explore and we recommend tackling the 430 steps down and 430 steps back to explore the man made ice grotto. Inside you will discover ice sculptures and caves in addition to the Gallery of Crystals, which features a collection of the finest crystal specimens in the Mont Blanc massif.

Ok, so maybe after the 860 steps, you’ll be ready to rest? You will have the afternoon to relax or continue strolling or shopping through the town of Chamonix. Tonight we’ll enjoy local cuisine together at our group dinner.

Day 04

View stage finish in Megève

Date Tuesday, July 12 Hotel Location Chamonix

We’ve left the morning free to enjoy your last chunk of time in Chamonix.  Today we’ll meet some new group members before we all transfer towards the finish area of today’s stage.

Megève is a mountain resort town where you’ll find a place, next to the locals, to cheer on the racers as they pass on their way to the finish line.

Dinner is on your own in Chamonix. We recommend the fondue or raclette cheese dishes that are native to the Alps.

Day 05

VIP start village

Date Wednesday, July 13 Hotel Location Vaujunay

This morning we’ll check out of our hotel and transfer into another region of the French Alps. We’ll make a stop in Albertville, which is the start city for today’s stage. Our VIP venue is at the Start Village. You’ll enjoy finger foods, drinks and will be able to view the racers line up as they are announced for the start of Stage 11.

Once the racers have departed, you’ll grab some lunch and then we’ll transfer for a couple hours to the picturesque town of Vaujunay. This ski town is on the back side of Alpe d’Huez and is a great place to take in the tremendous views.

You’ll be on your own for dinner tonight. Accommodations are chalet/apartment style where you will have a private bedroom and will share a common area with another couple or single.

Day 06

Pictures on the podium and private viewing on Alpe d'Huez

Date Thursday, July 14 Hotel Location Vaujunay

Happy Bastille Day! The 21 bends of Alpe d’Huez are legendary and you will have a story to tell your friends and family for many, many years. You will have the morning to explore the area before the group meets to tour the official podium and to take pictures. This is a unique VIP experience that our clients love!

After the podium, we will make our way on foot to our chalet to have a private, outdoor viewing party to see the racers make this historic climb. A chef will grill food and there will be plenty to eat and drink as we watch the battle up this steep mountain. The chalet has an outstanding location between turns 2 and 1 for one of the most important days of the Tour.

This will be another day to wear your comfortable walking shoes. There will be a fair amount of walking with some parts on an unpaved incline and decline.

Tonight will be our last night together, so we will have our farewell dinner and share stories from the week.

Day 07
