2012 Self-Guided Burgundy and Alps

July 8th to July 13th (evening), 2012

This trip is based on 2 people traveling together and sharing a room. It can be modified to accommodate singles, as well as three or more people traveling together.

 

- July 8th -

Hotel location: Beaune

 

The trip starts in Paris airport where you will pick-up your rental car. We can arrange for other pick-up locations if you prefer; simply let us know.

You will then make your way to Beaune, the wine capital of famous Burgundy region.

Beaune is quite an interesting place and the drive from Paris airport should take about 3.5 hours

 

- July 9th -

Hotel location: Beaune

Tour Stage 9  /  Arc et Senan - Besancon  / 38km Individual Time Trial

What a stage this promises to be! The 2 previous days were mountainous and we fully expect those with more climbing than time-trial abilities will have had to make their presence known already.

Today the power role shifts to the likes of Evans, Wiggins or perhaps Contador.

Will any time gaps taken in the "hills" hold today? Can this time-trial equalize things? You will find out today! With just 38kms between the start and finish, we recommend seeing a bit of both the start and the finish and VIP hospitality is available at the finish for a full afternoon of great race action

 

- July 10th -

Hotel location: lake Annecy

Tour Stage N/A  /  Rest Day  /  0km

This is the first rest day in the 2012 Tour de France and you have quite a few choices as to how best fill your day. It won't be hard to find things to do, the harder part will be picking among all the choices!

 

Do you want to stay longer in the Burgundy region and make a later drive to beautiful Annecy or do you prefer get to Annecy its lake and mountains earlier?

 

Good choices to have for sure!

- July 11th -

Hotel location: lake Annecy

Tour Stage 10  /   Macon  -  Bellegarde sur Valserine  /  194km

For the first time ever, the Tour de France will be going over the otherwise very famous col du Grand Colombier (at last!!!). This is one of France's greatest climbs and this is truly the only place to see the race from! We'll recommend seeing the action in this climb or at the stage finish - depending on what you wish to do tomorrow!

 

- July 12th -

Hotel location: Chambery

Tour Stage 11  /   Albertville - La Toussuire  /  140km

Certainly not a stage for the sprinters today as the stage features 3 difficult climbs with the col de la Madeleine, Col de la Croix de Fer and the mountain top finish in La Toussuire.

 

There are plenty of great viewing locations but you will want to see the race in one of the climbs for sure and we'll be sure to provide pointers!

 

- July 13th -

Hotel location: n/a

Tour Stage 12  /   St Jean de Maurienne - Annonay  /  220km

Your final day on the Tour will provide several opportunities for watching the race. There are 2 climbs features today, but after a few days of seeing the race in the climbs and what that involves, you may want to head to Saint jean de Maurienne to see the start!

 

Starts offer great opportunities for pictures and are the best place to try to catch some of the riders (autographs as well?).

 

It will then be time to return your rental vehicle at Lyon airport (or city)

A 25% deposit per person is required to reserve a spot. If places are still available when we receive your application along with deposit, you will receive notification of your registration. If the trip is sold out, you will be given the option to be placed on a waiting list or choice of another trip. Waitlist order is on a first come first serve basis as well.
