July 6th to July 15th, 2010
This trip is based on 2 people traveling together and sharing a room. It can be modified to accommodate singles, as well as three or more people traveling together. |
July 6th Hotel location: Champagne
The trip starts very conveniently in Paris with a pick-up of the rental vehicle at the airport. The airport is also located on the way to the Champagne region which is where the first 2 nights of the trip will be.
Assuming an early arrival and that you didn't mind the drive, seeing today's arrival stage isn't out of the question! (but a sizeable drive) |
July 7th Hotel location: Champagne Tour Stage 4 / Cambrai - Reims / 150km (93.5 miles)
Todays' stage is the second shortest inline stage and will arrive in the beautiful city of Reims. The cathedral in Reims (one of 4 Unesco World Heritage sites in the city!) saw the coronation of all French kings from the 11th Century forward - apart from Louis VI and Henri IV.
You'll be able to spend some time in Reims then see the stage finish which should be a sprint and one of Cavendish's chance for a stage win. |
July 8th Hotel location: Beaune - Burgundy Tour Stage 5 / Epernay - Montargis / 185km (115 miles) The best place to see the race today will be at the start village. This will also free up the afternoon for "non-Tour de France activities". Between Reims, the Champagne region, the Burgunndy region and Beaune there will certainly be plenty to see and do. |
July 9th Hotel location: Beaune - Burgundy Tour Stage 6 / Montargis - Gueugnon / 225km (140 miles) If yesterday's stage was nearly the shortest, today is the longest of the 2010 Tour de France. You'll some more time in the morning in Beaune before making the relatively short drive to Gueugnon to see the stage finish. |

July 10th Hotel Location: Crozet Tour stage 7 / Tournus - Les Rousses / 161km (100 miles) Both the start (Tournus) and finish locations (ski station of Les Rousses) are hosting their first Tour de France stages and will be eager to provide a good sowing. The atmosphere should be festive. You'll be able to experience the first mountain stage of the 2010 TDF on the slopes of the final climb of the day. |
July 11th Hotel Location: Crozet Tour stage 8 / Les Rousses - Avoriaz / 189km (118 miles) There are quite a few choices to see the race from. Actually this is one of the stages which might allow a couple of viewing opportunities for those who wish to see the race near the start and toward the finish. Being on the final climb is also an option, but will require picking just that location on the day. |

July 14th Hotel Location: Corps Tour stage 10 / Chambery - Gap / 204km (127 miles)
HAPPY BASTILLE DAY!
A final stage in the Alps will see the peloton go over a few significant climbs. This is always a fun stage to drive over early to witness all the pageantry surrounding a stage taking place on July 14th.
Expect the French flags to be out and the French riders to try to make something happen. It will be a festive day regardless!
