Self -
Guided Pyrenees
From July 12th to July
16th (eve), 2008

|
This trip is based on 2 people traveling together and
sharing a room. |
 |
July
12th
The
trip starts in Toulouse where you will pick-up your rental car. We can
arrange for other pick-up locations; simply let us know.
You will then head for your first hotel which is owned and run by a
wonderful woman and is located in the heart of the Pyrenees, just south of
Tarbes. Each room has a theme in this hotel and cycling is largely
featured.
You'll be able to unpack as this will be home for the entire duration of
the trip. The location of the hotel is ideal. 2 stages of the 2008 Tour de
France run by its door!

Hotel location: Near Bagneres de B. |

Tour Stage 9 / Toulouse -
Bagneres de Bigorre / 222km (139 miles) |
|

Col d'Aspin |
Our hotel couldn't be in a
better location as it is in the course, approximately 5km from the
arrival!
Therefore a couple of
viewing options will be available:
- Viewing the race at the
arrival
- Viewing the race from the
top of the col d'Aspin.

Tour Stage 10 / Pau - Hautacam /
154km (96 miles) |
 |
This is THE stage in the
Pyrenees this year as it features the mountain top finish in Hautacam,
and the Tourmalet as an appetizer! This stage is also
relatively short, with a rest day coming after, so all the
ingredients are there for an explosive stage. Once again the race
will be going by the hotel, so there are a number of possible viewing
options!
This is also Bastille day and would encourage you to join the
festivities in the nearby town of Bagneres de Bigorre.

|
- July 15th - |
|
Hotel location: Near Bagneres de B. |
| Tour Stage: REST DAY |
 |
The Tour takes a day off today and
we will offer a few suggestions on places to see and things to do.
Many of the teams will be staying in Pau, so a visit to the Castle
could double as some Team sightings. Another popular place when in the
region is Lourdes. The Italian and Spanish teams will tend to go by
the grotto and that is a good place to see team Euskatel for example.
Another perfect day trip is going to the observatory at the Pic du
midi.

Tour Stage 11 /
Lannemezan - Foix / 166km (104 miles) |
 |
This is the final stage in
the Pyrenees and the final day of your trip. There are a number of
options for viewing once again, but the one which makes the most sense
is to go to Lannemezan to experience a stage start.
Starts offer great opportunities for pictures and to
mingle with the teams and racers warming up (autographs as well?)
You will be returning the
rental vehicle at the end of the day in Toulouse. Again, if the
pick-up or drop-off location for the rental vehicle is not convenient,
or if you wish to add days, we can arrange for that.
