Etape du Tour extension
July 7th to July 9th
Mont Ventoux and Alpe d'Huez!!!
We've received several
inquiries about how to add Alpe d'Huez or another ride while in France
for the Etape du Tour. For some, this is a once in a lifetime trip and
catching some of the "Must ride" climbs is an opportunity not to be
missed. Others want to make the most of their time in France and visit
(or revisit) these 2 legendary climbs!
We understand that time
is also an issue which is why we have put together this short
extension to the end of the Etape du Tour. 2 nights and 2.5 days is
all it will take to scratch 2 of the climbs off of your "need to ride"
list.

ITINERARY
|
- July 7th - |
|
Hotel location: Provence |
| |
|
 |
We'll be leaving fairly
early this morning as there is a bit of a drive to get to the Provence
region. We should arrive in time for a late lunch and those who wish
to go for a shake down ride will be able to do so. We'll have a couple
of ride options available which will be mostly flat in order to flush
out some of the lactic acid buildup from yesterday's ride!
Of course a bit of R&R is
also quite possible! |
 |
|
- July 8th - |
|
Hotel location: Route Napoleon - Alps |
 |
We will tackle the first of the 2 big
climbs this morning.
There will be a bit of a warm-up ride
prior to getting to Bedoin and the base of the climb. There are 3 ways
to go up Mont Ventoux, and the climb up from Bedoin is the
classic way up!
The way down will take us through Sault -
famous for the lavender fields that surround it!
We'll then transfer to our hotel for the
evening. This is one of our favorite stops and Chef Gilbert will be
sure to cater to our tastebuds!

Yesterday was Mont Ventoux;
today will be Alpe d'Huez. As yesterday there will be a few kms to
wake the legs up, shake off any tightness and basically have you at
the base of the 21 switchback climb ready to tackle Pantani's
record...well.... at least set your own personal best!
The base of the climb is
humbling to any cyclist, and while the gradients don't ever let up,
knowing that the most arduous part is over with after 3km is
reassuring!
We will then transfer to
Lyon airport for our drop-off. You will find bullet trains and flights
from Lyon airport as well as shuttles to get to downtown Lyon, and if
your travel arrangements call for travel on the next day, there are
hotels at or near the airport. We'll be happy to assist with any
reservations for trains or room which you may need.
